Dear Directors and ICS officers, I hope this message finds you all well. Let me recall the main achievements of this second half of 2024.
Ancient revered Sanmen Tsubaki to be honoured at Tokyo ICS Congress

One of Japan’s oldest and most revered camellia trees, the Sanmen Tsubaki (the three-sides camellia) of Kumano Shrine, Massaki-cho, Ofunato City, will be recognised as a Significant Historic Ornamental Camellia Tree at the forthcoming ICS Congress in Tokyo in 2025.
A Significant Historical Ornamental Tree Award has been given to Germany

A Significant Historical Ornamental Tree Award has been given to Germany’s most iconic and famous ancient camellia tree, dated at over 250 years old, a single red Camellia japonica linked to 18th century importation of camellias into Europe.

Let me recap some key points. Our colleague Professor Tanaka is preparing the 2025 Japan Congress; Our new Treasurer, Jason Dean, started on June 1st; Sasanquas are a key species in the realm of ornamental camellias; The participations at flower shows promotes ICS and camellia societies also with younger people.
The First ICS Award for a Historic Ornamental Camellia Tree

Congratulations to Caerhays Castle Garden UK for an ICS Award for a Historic Ornamental Camellia Tree Collection of eleven specimens including five specimens of Camellia sasanqua (planted between 1899-1902), two specimens of Camellia x vernalis 'Dawn' (planted between 1899-1902), one specimen of Camellia japonica 'Gauntlettii' ('Sodekakushi', planted 1902), and one specimen of Camellia japonica 'Akashigata' (Lady Clare', planted 1906).
New Treasurer as of June 1st, 2024

As announced in the 2023 Congress, Clare Million, our current treasurer, has asked to be replaced. Clare has served since 2013, a long period then. We are profoundly grateful for her effort in managing a complex financial structure, with accounts in the US and UK, and moreover, remittances coming from the whole world.
Midyear 2023 President's Message

A total of 122 delegates attended the Italy congress (47 from Europe and UK, 30 from the US, 25 from Oceania, 15 from Japan, and 5 from China). Participants to Pre-congress and Postcongress were beyond expectations, with 92 and 91 respectively. Travel restrictions impeded a larger participation by Chinese delegates.

Applications for ICS Global Awards for a Historic Ornamental Camellia Tree or for collections (<50 specimens) of Historic Ornamental Camellia Trees will be accepted from 30 June 2023.
Sasanqua book

ICS has published the first and unique book on Sasanquas, which is their most comprehensive illustration in English.
The 2023 ICS Congress in Italy

122 delegates from all over the world have participated. The Congress successfully ran its variegated itinerary, from Tuscany to Switzerland.
