The Tokyo Congress was a really successful event. Let me thank all the staff, especially Professor Tanaka and Mr. Tadashi Karato. Let me congratulate the hotel Chinzanso for the excellent accommodation. We really enjoyed the three outstanding Oshima gardens. Thank you also to Professor Wang for organizing the excellent scientific session.

Florence Crowder (88) left us on December 24, just before Christmas. She was a wonderful person, full of enthusiasm, and passionate about ancient camellia cultivars.
Ancient revered Sanmen Tsubaki to be honoured at Tokyo ICS Congress

One of Japan’s oldest and most revered camellia trees, the Sanmen Tsubaki (the three-sides camellia) of Kumano Shrine, Massaki-cho, Ofunato City, will be recognised as a Significant Historic Ornamental Camellia Tree at the forthcoming ICS Congress in Tokyo in 2025.

Es handelt sich um eine einfach rote Camellia japonica, die wahrscheinlich im 18.Jh im Rahmen der Importe aus Asien nach Europa kam. Sie könnte zum Erbe der frühen Seidel-Zucht um 1790 gehören.
