Vergelegen Estate & Gardens

The HomesteadGarden Overview

The 312-year old Vergelegen Estate is famous for its award-winning wines, historic Homestead and Library, ancient Camphor Trees, modern Wine Tasting Centre, restaurants and seasonal Camphor Forest Picnic.  It has been a gardener's paradise since the van der Stel era in the 1700's and today 17 exquisitely themed gardens are on display for visitors to enjoy.

Our Camellias

The outstanding collection of over 1000 camellia bushes at Vergelegen was awarded International Camellia Garden of Excellence status by the International Camellia Society in March 2010.  There are approximately 550 cultivars and some of the most beautiful and rare include Francie L and Anticipation from New Zealand, Grace Albritton, Tiffany and Lasca Beauty from the USA, Laurian Brown from South Africa and Tama Electra from Japan.
