Georg Klösel passed away on January 14, 2025, at the age of 91. He was a loyal friend to the North German camellia enthusiasts and a great camellia lover. Living in Hamburg, he was allowed to set up a greenhouse in the community garden and plant out several camellia plants. Here, he indulged his passion for camellias.
His propagation of cuttings from difficult-to-root varieties is legendary. "Can't do it, can't do it," was his motto. And he was often successful. He liked to give away some of his camellias. For example, he bred the camellias 'Prof. Klaus Peper' and 'Rolf Tiefenbach', as well as several other camellias named after camellia enthusiasts.
He was also able to send a box of homemade jam, a surprise for the recipient.
We will miss his humor and his kindness.
